Birthdays in Santa Monica : On April 12, some friends from Fuller and I went to Santa Monica to celebrate a few birthdays. We had a picnic, took a walk, enjoyed the ocean and especially people watching on the cement 'boardwalk'.

Joshua Tree! : Chris Reno and Mike Zimmerman, friends of high school in NC, came out the first weekend in December to LA for work- we decided to get some ply in before...Joshua Tree is only 2 hours from Pasadena so it made for a great day trip- the park is sweet, internationally known for its rock climbing. All these pics were taken by Chris, except for one or two of the sunset pics.

Huntington Gardens : Huntington Library and Gardens is a private establishment founded in 1907 by a rich man. It is just next door to Pasadena and offers a great retreat from the city with big gardens themed from different regions around the world. The most interesting gardens to me, and therefore where most of the pictures are from, was the desert garden and the Japanese garden. Its costs $15 to get in, but Marcel and I went on the first thursday of June, which was free! It was not, however, free of other people...

Sequoia National Park, CA : Amanda and I got away this weekend to Sequoia Nat'l Park here in Southern California. About four hours drive from our home in Pasadena, we went up Friday afternoon and came back Saturday evening. The park is in the southern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the forests at 7000 ft have quite pleasant weather compared to the valleys. The huge Sequoia trees are incredible and the largest tree in the world, named the General Sherman was amazing. Thanks for checking out the pics!

Mt Baldy : The highest peak in the San Gabriel mtns of Southern California at 10,055 feet was conquered (barely) by myself and a friend the other day. Actually, mike did great, I got a minor case of altitude sickness. Of course, close to 15 miles in one day could make anyone sick, altitude or not! Regardless, it was an amazing hike and the panoramic view of Southern California at the top was incredible!

Santa Barbara Day Trip : On Veteren's Day Amanda and I took a trip an hour and half north of LA to Santa Barbara. We had a picnic lunch, walked the waterfront, watched the sunset and had a nice little dinner in town. The area is beautiful and we had a great time together. It was a well needed day of rest for Amanda after a tough few weeks at work.

San Francisco Thanksgiving 08 : Amanda and I missed our families over Thanksgiving this year, but our trip to San Francisco sort of made up for it:). We were both super impressed with the city- the people were noticeably more friendly than our not-so-friendly LA neighbors. The sights of the city are beyond comparison in my opinion and we had a great vacation.
