Brushy Fork Church Shower : Brushy Fork Baptist Church, where Amanda and I met in 1999, hosted us for a White Bible service and a wedding shower on Sunday 22 June 2008. Their generous gifts were plentiful, and due to Amanda's surgery two days earlier, she had to turn the gift opening over to me. At one point, she turned to me and asked if we were done yet! We left after the gifts and took the rest of the cards home with us. We got many gifts for our new home as well as money to help cover other costs- Praise God!

Honda GL 1000 : In 1975, Honda introduced its answer to BMW's domination of the long distance motorcycle market in America. Built up from the existing reliable and very popular CB 750, the Honda Goldwing has been a legend ever since. We have a 1978 model whose engine size is 999cc. Compared to previous models, the GL 1000 this year dropped the kickstart and added a gauge console above the "fuel tank". Instead of putting the fuel tank in the normal spot in front of the rider, Honda opted to put the 5.1 gal tank under the seat, wrapped around the bikes frame. Not only does this lower the center of gravity significantly, but also leaves room in front of the rider for a "glove compartment" as well as easy access to mechanical necessities such as electronics, air filter, and radiator fluid. Dual disk brakes up front and one rear is an added plus. Steel wheels without spokes means that tires can be patched on the side of the road instead of towing to a gas station. Dry weight is about 584 lbs- pretty heavy for me, but manageable:) The bike rides and looks like new with only 11,500 miles on it! Amanda and I are looking forward to seeing more of Southern California with it over the next several months...
